According to Ministry of Tourism of Republic of Croatia, the Croatian town of
Sveti Martin na Muri (Medjimurje County) is the winner of a national contest for Europe's tourist destinations of excellence.
The District of Sveti Martin na Muri was the first local community in Croatia to adopt a document entitled "Strategy of development in rural tourism of the District of Sveti Martin na Muri." From that moment, the community has been implementing everything specified in this document in small but steadily progressive steps.

L'Europe a remis le prix de "destination européenne d'excellence" (EDEN) aux dix meilleures destinations rurales émergentes lors du Forum européen annuel du tourisme. Les sites récompensés se trouvent en Autriche, en Belgique, en Croatie, a Chypre, en Grece, en Hongrie, en Irlande, en Italie, en Lettonie et a Malte. La France n'avait pas proposé de lieu cette année mais compte le faire l'an prochain.
L'Europe a reconnu le patrimoine naturel exceptionnel du district de
Sveti Martin na Muri (Croatie), le massif de Troodos (Chypre) pour son calme et ses paysages, la région de Florina (Grece) pour son paysage montagneux ou tourisme et environnement "font bon ménage". En Hongrie, la région de l'Orség a également été reconnu pour son paysage et son artisanat.
Les prix EDEN ont pour vocation d'attirer l'attention sur "la valeur, la diversité et les caractéristiques communes des destinations touristiques européennes et de promouvoir des destinations ou la réussite commerciale va de pair avec la durabilité sociale, culturelle et environnementale", explique un communiqué de l'Union européenne.
